GENERAL
The Okamoto CNC 880 offers automatic precision grindings of complex forms on long workpieces such as for broaches, dies & tools, gears, racks etc…with faster speed and greater flexibility. CNC Rotary contouring axis which can give you 5 Axes for shaft grinding, keyways, gear teeth, round broaching with center piece support. CNC dressing program.

5 AXES CONTROL PROVIDES DIVERSIFIED AUTOMATIC GRINDING CYCLES
5 Axes CNC provides the following automatic feeds:

  1. Wheelhead vertical feed (Y axis).
  2. Wheelhead crossfeed (Z axis).
  3. Dresser crossfeed (X axis).
  4. Index head rotary feed (C axis).
  5. CNC index head

The grinding wheel can be trued to any necessary form with the X & Y axes simultaneously controlled.  The Y & Z axes are simultaneously controllable to position the wheelhead for profile grinding of the workpiece. Center supported workpiece such as round broaches and gears can be ground with the CNC index head which is controlled by the C axis.

UNIQUE GRINDING SYSTEM
The dressing device is mounted on the right end of the table and has an arm supported at both ends.  A roof shaped diamond tool is attached at the center of the arm.  This arm tilts in seven positions which is controlled by CNC commands in order to avoid interferences between the diamond tool and the wheel.  Our unique design concept for CNC profile grinding is based on the three methods below:

PLUNGE GRINDING METHOD

The grinding wheel periphery is numerically trued in connection with a profile of the workpiece and grinds the workpiece by the plunge grinding method.  This method is suitable for production grinding of marrow parts.  For the grinding of wider pars, to or more operations are combined by changing grinding wheels

CONTOURING GRINDING METHOD

After the grinding wheel periphery has been numerically trued to a simple round form, it is numerically moved corresponding to the profile of the workpiece.  This method is suitable for grinding wider workpieces and for grinding tungsten carbide necessitation the use of a diamond wheel.


COMPOUND GRINDING METHOD

This method combines the aforementioned two methods and is suitable for grinding workpieces with identical profiles in succession, such as racks, gears, etc. Gears are ground with an automatic indexing head supplied as an option.  Optimum tooth profile modification on gears and racks are easily obtained with simple programming changes
